The Ministry to the Sick.
A big family where everyone is at home!

In their search for the meaning of suffering, the faithful are strengthened by God’s grace and find the hope with which to face their ordeals. Persons living with disabilities or with suffering of any kind, whether physical or emotional, are encouraged by Saint Brother André to turn to Saint Joseph of Mount Royal, who of comforts them. The Office of Pilgrimages for the Sick continues this mission of hospitality for the ill and suffering through retreat programs and spiritual activities. We can arrange for visits to private homes, care facilities or hospitals. (The Oratory is recognized by Kéroul.) If you would like to join the Ministry to the Sick or volunteer for special occasions please contact its coordinator Jean-Réhu Joseph.

Forging Ahead:

  • specially adapted guided tours
  • devotions for the sick every Wednesday at 2 p.m.
  • spiritual renewal programs
  • ramps and wheelchairs and elevator
  • shuttle bus equipped for transportation of mobility impaired persons on the Oratory grounds, as required
Here is what we offer you:
  • About ten activities spacially planned each year
    for our members and volunteers;
  • A connection with persons who can not get out easily
    but who still wish to remain in contact with the Oratory;
  • An opportunity to visit people in their residences at the
    request of someone in pastoral care or from recreational services;
  • An association of volunteers who are willing to place
    themselves at the service of persons who are suffering;
  • An environment that is continually adapting to the need
    for access to all of the Oratory.

Mass for the Sick : Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Crypt Church

Free Wheelchair Service Is Offered
at Saint Joseph's Oratory with Pleasure!
People with reduced mobility can borrow a wheelchair so that they may have easier access to the site for their visit. To take advantage of this service, go to the entrance to the visit chapel.
Leave a piece of identity with one of the personnel at the information desk just across from the Office of Information and Blessings, or with a member of the staff of Visitor and Pilgrim Services. At the end of your visit, please return the wheelchair to the same place so that you may reclaim your identity card.

There is wheelchair access to the Basilica from the right front entrance for eucharistic celebrations.

The Ministry to the Sick
An Oasis for Conversation and Companionship
When serious illness strikes or an unexpected diagnosis turns your life upside down, where can you turn? We can always turn towards our Lord who never abandons us; not even when pain overwhelms us and we are tempted to doubt his presence and his aid. We may not see him...we may not see the traces of his footsteps. Even so, he is with us and gives us the strength to endure one day at a time.

“Come to me, all who are weary from carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11: 28) This invitation is held out by Jesus who suffered on the cross until he died. He knows the depth of our anguish and he walks beside us.

“Human beings are born to suffer, as surely as sparks must shoot out and away,” says Job. But during trials, “God is for us a refuge, a fortress, our ever-present help in misery.” (Psalm 46:1) True, God will not always cure us of our sickness. However, God will give us the courage to face it resolutely. That is why, despite all adversity, “Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121: 2) May Brother Andre, who restored so many by placing them in the hands of Saint Joseph, console you and grant you healing!

  An Inspiring Testimony
It was July 2009; I wanted very badly to have a child. The doctors told me I could not conceive. I asked Brother Andre for a child and one month later, I became pregnant. My pregnancy progressed with no complications. On May 15, 2010, I brought a beautiful baby girl into the world. Her name is Mia. She enjoys excellent health. Thanks to Brother Andre for a favor received.
