Free outdoor concert in the Hors les murs series

Mônica Freire’s native Brazil meets the land of her ancestors in the Near East. Carried by multiple influences, she delivers a poetic and powerful music with strength and joy.

This project delves into her Syrian and Lebanese roots, blending Brazilian guitar, oriental, African and Brazilian percussion, as well as the oud, in a dialogue between tradition and modernity.

These delicate pieces, carried by Mônica Freire’s gentle voice, are about identity, uprooting, exile and painful relationships, but also about surpassing oneself, inner strength and joy, the joy of the present moment and the possibilities that tomorrow holds. Reflecting the rich career of an atypical artist who draws on her multiple influences and never ceases to reinvent herself, the songs, by turns danceable, serious and hard-hitting, navigate between Portuguese and French.

A collaboration between the Côte-des-Neiges/Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough and Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal.
