Lecture: Saint-Césaire in the Time of Alfred Bessette (1845–1870) (in French)

Presented by Gilles Bachand, historian

Before becoming Brother André, founder of Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal and porter at Notre-Dame College, Alfred Bessette was first and foremost a child of Saint-Césaire.

In the mid-19th century, this small town was a bustling place where industry, agriculture, and culture converged. What was daily life like for young Alfred? Who were the prominent figures in Saint-Césaire? And how did his encounters with Father André Provençal and the Congregation of the Holy Cross shape his vocation?

A 40-minute illustrated lecture, presented by a specialist historian, to rediscover the world that shaped the man who would come to be known as Brother André.
