The World Day of Prayer for the Church in China was instituted by Benedict XVI in his Letter to Chinese Catholics on May 27, 2007, in a spirit of rapprochement with the Chinese Catholics, who celebrate the memory of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Basilica of Mary, Help of Christians.
