- OpenThe garden of the Way of the Cross
The Way of the Cross is a spiritual exercise firmly rooted in Christian tradition. In a series of tableaux, it offers a meditation on Jesus’ last moments, his death on the cross and his Resurrection.
Our mountainside Way of the Cross is a splendid garden designed by landscape architect Frederick G. Todd.
Sculptor Louis Parent designed a modern work that blends harmoniously into the natural environment. The monumental ensemble comprises 42 figures, each around 9 feet tall, which the sculptor modelled in his Oratory studio between 1943 and 1953. The statues were carved in Indiana stone by Ercolo Barbieri between 1952 and 1958.
His work includes the traditional fourteen stations, to which he added a marble Resurrection monument and a basin, known as the Fountain of Redemption.
This green setting showcases one of the finest jewels in Canada’s religious heritage.
