Yes, agreed!
We will never finish pondering the life of this very young girl. In the time of King Herod, she drew attention and was found worthy in the Lord’s sight. Among all women, Mary was chosen as the unique spouse to become the mother of the Savior.
No, we will never cease contemplating this wonderful mystery, for it rests entirely on a brief response to the archangel Gabriel: “Let everything happen to me according to your word.”
And at the same time, it is both the joy of an exceptional motherhood and the sorrow born from the most tragic drama in all of history: the birth of the Son of God and His death on a cross.
It takes deep faith to believe in such events, without trying to explain them through human reason. A deep faith like that of Mary, who says her “Yes, agreed!”
And what if we realized that the Lord is waiting for the same answer from us… according to our own measure, of course?
What if the Spirit were only waiting for our consent to fill us and transform our lives? What if it were only waiting for our “Yes, it is agreed!” to help us grow in His way?
A consent that is sometimes easy and brings profound joy.
A consent that is difficult in a life where dark hours follow moments of euphoria.
A demanding consent, standing at the foot of the cross, when everything seems lost.
The “Yes” of the young girl was lived without interruption, all the way to the suffering of the grown mother.
In the end, if the Spirit were to grant us to live our own consent in this way, how wonderful that would be!
