Celebrate the Month of Saint Brother André!

At Saint Joseph’s Oratory, the month of August is dedicated to Saint Brother André, Patron Saint of Family Caregivers in Canada, born on August 9, 1845. You are invited to participate in pastoral and cultural events on offer throughout the month.

All activities are conducted in French unless mentionned otherwise.

Schedule of activities for August 2024

Wednesdays (August 7, 14, 21, 28)

Mass for the Sick in the Crypt Church at 2 p.m.
Musical prelude at 1:30 p.m.

August 6 to August 8

Triduum on the theme: Brother André, a model for us today
Preacher: Father Jonas Saint-Martin, CSC.

Exhibition of the major reliquary of Saint Brother André in the Crypt Church daily from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday August 9

Anniversary of the Birth of Saint Brother André

  • Free admission to the Oratory Museum all day
  • Animation on level 5 (near the museum) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in collaboration with the archives team (activity and theme to be confirmed)
  • Sharing a birthday cake on the SDPP terrace, from 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. In case of rain, the cake service will take place inside (location to be confirmed)
  • Special carillon recital at 2:00 p.m. (time and location to be confirmed)
      • Solemn masses
  • 8:15 a.m. (Radio VM and YouTube)
  • 7:30 p.m. in the basilica presided over by Father Michael DeLaney (or Bernard Antoine if Father DeLaney is absent) followed by a torchlight procession to the original chapel.

Sunday August 25

  • Annual pilgrimage to Mont-Saint-Grégoire, birthplace of Brother André.
    Departure by bus from Saint-Joseph’s Oratory at 9 a.m., return at 4:30 p.m.
  • Mass at the parish church of Mont-Saint-Grégoire at 11 a.m., presided over by Mgr Christian Rodembourg
    Dinner at the sugar shack at 12:30 p.m.
    Prayer at the monument of Saint Brother André at 2:30 p.m.
  • $35 transportation and meals included

Please note that due to unfavorable weather forecasts, Masses will be held indoors.
