The Family Caregivers now have a chapel dedicated to them at Saint Joseph’s Oratory, a place of prayer where they can go to meet Saint Brother André, the Patron Saint of Family Caregivers of Canada, knowing they will be heard in complete intimacy. It is a hearth where a tear of exhaustion, simply shed, becomes a fervent prayer; where the legitimate burdens of their hearts, opened in quiet confidence, are transformed into spiritual strength.
These individuals embody the Gospel in action through their noble role in supporting a person who is losing autonomy. “I was sick and you looked after me” (Matthew 25:36).
This chapel is a tribute of gratitude that Saint Joseph’s Oratory dedicates to them, an honorable recognition marking National Caregivers Week, taking place from November 2 to 8, 2025. Let us take this opportunity to better understand and, if possible, ease the demanding work of these invisible partners, for we are all called to become one, or to one day need one, ourselves.
